An armed man has invaded the facilities of Zakynthos airport, “Dionysios Solomos”. He is holding hostage passengers and staff members. This was the scenario considered by the small-scale preparedness exercise held at the main airport of the Ionian island on 2 December.
The exercise, in which special units of the Hellenic Police, the Fire Brigade and the EKAV participated, was organized by the Unified Coordination Center for Operations and Crisis Management (ESKEDIK) of the Hellenic Police Headquarters in cooperation with Fraport Greece, the Airport’s operating and management body.
The aim of the exercise was to check the emergency response plans of the involved agencies and their interoperability when dealing with the incident.
It is worth noting that the exercise in question was part of a series of actions implemented within the framework of the cooperation of the Hellenic Police Headquarters with Fraport Greece, regarding the preparation of operational security planning for the 14 regional airports managed by the company.
