Santorini airport becomes the latest regional airport to be integrated into the European aviation network of Eurocontrol.
“Thanks to the close cooperation with Fraport Greece and the Greek ANSP, Santorini is now connected to the EUROCONTROL Network Manager (NM) European Connected Regional Airports programme,” Eurocontrol said.
According to the Agency, small and regional airports account for around 50% of traffic on the European air network.
Linking Santorini airport to Eurocontrol’s NM will improve the airport’s performance, as well as study the situation during the busy summer months, when traffic at Santorini increases to around 150 daily departures/arrivals, making it one of the busiest regional airports in Europe.
“With 1 more regional Greek airport to be connected in September 2023 and 2 more in March 2024, more departures from Greek islands will be visible in the EUROCONTROL Network Manager Operations Centre,” the Agency underlines.
