Iceland’s leading low-cost airline, PLAY, successfully launched its first flight from Athens on 3 June, marking the start of its long-awaited route connecting Athens directly to Iceland and destinations in the United States and Canada. PLAY will operate two flights per week from Athens, with departures scheduled for every Saturday and Tuesday, starting in June and running until the first week of January 2024.
As a prominent transatlantic carrier connecting Europe and North America, PLAY operates from its strategically located hub at Iceland’s Keflavik Airport. This central location offers travellers easy access between Athens and Iceland. From Iceland, PLAY passengers can conveniently travel to four major US cities; New York, Boston, Washington DC and Baltimore. In addition, PLAY passengers can travel to Toronto, Canada, via Iceland.
Travelers visiting Iceland will be captivated by the country’s stunning natural beauty, including scenic hot springs, impressive glaciers, the midnight sun in summer and the majestic Northern Lights in winter. Since its first flight in June 2021, PLAY has rapidly expanded its fleet from three Airbus A320neo aircraft to six in 2022. In 2023, the airline plans to operate a total of 10 Airbus A320/321neo aircraft. PLAY is proud to have a young and modern fleet, with an average aircraft age of just 2.3 years.
