A helicopter crashed in a field northeast of the airport in Kefalonia. The helicopter, which was operated by the company Interisland, was carrying two persons, aged between 60 and 70 years old, the pilot named Stathis Malapetsas (a tax inspector by profession) and a co-passenger, both aged between 60 and 70 years old.
The pilot, who flew with the Kefalonia air club, noticed a mechanical problem and drove the helicopter into a large plot of land in the village of Kleistma. According to some accounts, the helicopter had been circling near the Kastro area for some time, circling around. The two occupants of the helicopter were slightly injured and were taken to Argostoli Hospital as a precaution.
