AEGEAN and CAE enter into a Joint Venture to create the first modern Flight Simulator and Crew Training Centre in Greece. With a capacity of up to 7 full flight simulators, the AEGEAN – CAE Training Centre will be part of the new 85,000 m2 AEGEAN Technical Base to be created at Athens International Airport.
The new AEGEAN and CAE Training Centre is expected to be operational by the end of 2023 and will be the most technologically upgraded and modern aviation training hub in South East Europe.
In the first stage of development, the Training Centre will feature four flight simulators, including two Airbus A320neo, one Boeing 737NG and one ATR 72-600, as well as cabin crew training equipment, and envisages the installation of three additional simulators.
When fully deployed, the centre will be able to train up to 3,500 pilots per year (42,000 hours of training) and multiple cabin crew.
The creation of the new AEGEAN and CAE Training Centre is part of AEGEAN’s overall €140 million investment to create a modern aviation ecosystem in Greece, announced late last year, while further expanding CAE’s already significant global network of training centres.
It is noted that for its operation, the AEGEAN and CAE Flight Simulator and Crew Training Centre will consume “green” energy produced by the installation of 35,000 m2 of photovoltaic panels with a total capacity of 3 MW or 4.4 GWh per year, which will be installed at AEGEAN’s new technical base.
Dimitris Gerogiannis, CEO of AEGEAN, said.
Since the beginning of our operations, AEGEAN’s vision has been to create value for the industry and our country, which is why the creation of our new, shared, training center provides the opportunity for both our people and third party crews to develop skills and evolve their capabilities.
With this agreement, AEGEAN and CAE are joining forces, expertise and our shared values to create the most modern and comprehensive centre in pilot and cabin crew training in South East Europe. An investment that offers unlimited opportunities for our people, while broadening the growth prospects for the aviation industry and the country as a whole.”
