On Friday night, the aircraft on which the Aegean and AEK Athens businessman Dimitris Melissanidis was travelling on a business trip to Dubai, caught fire during take-off. The worst was avoided after the pilot managed to calmly land the jet in a difficult area in Northern Iraq.
According to AEK’s briefing, Dimitris Melissanidis was with his colleagues in the burning aircraft, and after the serious adventure they had in the air and the forced landing, they flew to Greece in a new aircraft that picked them up. What has been the misunderstanding, however, is the “identity” of the jet.
According to absolutely certain information, the private aircraft -Legacy- was not owned by the businessman, but had been leased from a third party. Mr Melissanidis returned safely to Greece in an aircraft leased from another – Greek – company for this purpose.
