With international passenger traffic reaching and marginally surpassing the corresponding levels of scheduled flights in 2019, November ended, registering for AEGEAN another month of significant recovery even after the covid pandemic. In particular, AEGEAN carried approximately 560 thousand passengers on its international scheduled flight network (+ 50% increase compared to 2021) offering 680 thousand seats.
More specifically, in November 2022 and during the current winter season, 8 destinations that were not served in the winter of 2019 were maintained from Athens. Basel, Cologne, Eindhoven, Florence, Oslo, Riyadh, Paphos, and Podgorica are destinations to which AEGEAN operates for the first time during the winter season from Athens International Airport with positive results in terms of occupancy.
At the same time, the 6 new additional international routes to Hamburg, Berlin, Zurich, Brussels, Milan and Rome that were launched for the direct connection of Thessaloniki in the summer season of 2022 were maintained in November, contributing to the increase of the company’s activity abroad from the airport “Macedonia” by 25%, compared to November 2019.
A similar effort to extend the tourist season during the previous month was also carried out to and from Heraklion airport, with particularly positive results, as the majority of flights to Germany, France and Switzerland were maintained. Meanwhile, from Kalamata and in continuation of the more than 12-year cooperation with TEMES, the flights to Munich, Copenhagen and Stockholm took place.
In the coming weeks, AEGEAN’s winter network will be strengthened even more, as from December 22, the regular, scheduled route connecting Athens to Morocco with 2 weekly flights will be re-introduced. While also for March, an effort will be made to restore several seasonal routes from Athens, Thessaloniki and the region, 1 or even 1.5 months earlier than the usual start date of flights of the tourist season, which is determined between April and May every year.
