Cycladic starts test flights in the Aegean this week, begining with the inter-island connection of the Cyclades and then with Crete.
Cycladic is the first, as it defines itself, “islandic, micro-airline” in Greece, having actually started its operation this year and constituting an investment of several million euros, under the scheme of interests of the shipowner Nikolas Lykiardopoulos.
The flights will last from 20 minutes to 1 hour and 20 minutes, depending on the destination, serving a dual purpose, on the one hand to meet the needs of the residents themselves for a direct connection where there are more administrative services (see Syros) and on the other hand to serve visitors who want to move to more islands.
Cycladic, which will operate on a 12-month basis, marks “a new era for islanders as well, allowing them to move quickly and comfortably between the islands, without being subject to restrictions arising from ferry or other airline routes”, as noted characteristics.
The fleet of the new micro-airline consists of three new single-engine high wing turboprop Cessna Grand Caravan EX, emphasizing the flight experience but also the lowest environmental footprint since these are state-of-the-art aircraft, with high environmental standards that lead to a reduced carbon footprint.
Cycladic flies to and from Santorini, Paros, Mykonos, Syros, Crete (Chania and Heraklion) and Rhodes, in the summer Milos will be added, while connections do not include subsidized destinations.
