Passenger traffic “took off” last month in Greek airports, recording a 223.6% increase compared to January last year. The provisional statistics of the CAA for passenger traffic at Greek airports in January 2022 show the following:
The total number of passengers handled amounted to 1,249,387 passengers, an increase of 223.6% compared with the corresponding period of 2021 where only 386,130 passengers were handled due to the restrictions against Covid-19.
In terms of flights to all airports in the country, these amounted to 18,218, of which 11,314 were domestic and 6,904 international, showing an increase of 70.1% compared with the corresponding period of 2021, when 10,708 flights were operated.
According to the statistics for the month of January, a large increase was recorded in arrivals of foreign passengers, which increased by 350.5%.
In particular, for the arrivals of passenger on flights from abroad in January 2022 there was an increase of 350.5%, corresponding to 271,796 passengers, compared to January 2021 when arrivals from abroad came to 60,328 passengers.
According to the CAA, comparing the statistics with January 2019, when there were 22,219 flights, this year in January there is a drop of -18% in aircraft traffic. In terms of passenger traffic, there was a 41.5 pct drop in comparison with January 2019, when 2,135,674 passengers were handled by Greek airports.
