Sources within All About Aviation.gr confirm that several international organizations have withdrawn the credentials of many aviation safety inspectors. This has been happening to Greek inspectors verified within the aviation credentials program known as Safety Assessment of Foreign Aircraft Program (SAFA).
According to All About Aviation. gr inside sources who have been watching how the compliance and corrective action has been evolving, reveal that the withdrawal of inspector credentials has been going on for the past several months. This fact is sad, and it exposes a critical part of the aviation credentialing system in a negative way. It also seems that there aren’t any solutions, at this time, to fix the situation. Either to somehow recertify the inspectors or create a new appointment system that will comprise of new qualifications.
Established by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC), the SAFA program conducts ramp inspections made by regulatory authorities. SAFA is considered very important when it comes to ensuring the international security system of flights. Specialized and experienced SAFA inspectors are trusted to inspect and evaluate aircraft based on strict standards and procedures. The inspectors must communicate their findings with their respective civil aviation authorities and top-level organizations in the industry including the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
To get back on track, a new administration of Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority which just took office should play a role in the restoration of Greece’s position an industry body as important as SAFA.
