Star Alliance was again named the world’s leading airline alliance at the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2023. Star Alliance’s lounge in Los Angeles retained the title of “World’s Leading Lounge” for the 7th consecutive year. The awards were received by Star Alliance CEO Theodoros Panagiotoulias at a ceremony held at the Paris Air Show.
Proud of the win, Mr Panagiotoulias said: “Star Alliance offers a strong network and promises seamless travel. We are delighted that millions of passengers have recognised the value of our network. With air travel on the rise, we welcome even more passengers to experience what Star Alliance and its 26 member airlines have to offer.”
Congratulating the team, Panagiotoulias added: “The resilience and hard work of every employee of Star Alliance and its member airlines during the challenging 2022 has paid off with this victory. I accept this honour on their behalf and encourage them to strive, for even more from here and beyond.”
Star Alliance, which offers the most extensive airline network, is committed to improving the passenger experience through an integrated strategy focused on digitising travel, expanding loyalty benefits and introducing innovative products and services for the airline industry, such as the ‘Intermodal Partnership’ model in partnership with German rail network, Deutsche Bahn, and the HSBC Star Alliance Credit Card, for the Australian market.
Star Alliance’s lounge in Los Angeles is the highest rated, repeatedly winning several prestigious awards. It features a terrace with excellent views, both day and evening.
The Skytrax World Airline Awards are known as “the Oscars of the airline industry” as they are derived through an unbiased international passenger vote. This year, 20.23 million entries were counted and the survey ran from September 2022 to March 2023, representing passengers from more than 100 nationalities. The survey was also conducted in six key international languages.
Notably, Star Alliance has won numerous awards since 2005, the year the “Best Airline Alliance” award was added to the categories.
Edward Plaisted, CEO of Skytrax, said: “We congratulate Star Alliance on this double accolade at the World Airline Awards, receiving both the ‘World’s Best Airline Alliance’ award and the ‘World’s Best Airline Alliance Lounge’ award. The Star Alliance lounge at Tom Bradley International Terminal has long been a passenger favourite, having already won numerous awards.”
In addition, 13 Star Alliance member airlines received 3 Star Alliance awards this year.
