The Athens International Airport will receive a financial aid of 19.98 million euros. With a decree issued by the Ministries of Finance and Transport, the aid concerns the restrictions imposed on travel in 2021 due to the pandemic.
The financial aid, which is defined through the MFA, concerns the period from July 1 to December 31, 2021. In mid-December, the EU found that the Greek measure, amounting to almost 20 million for the aid of the Athens International Airport, complies with the rules of the EU on state aid.
The measure aims to compensate the airport operator for the damages it suffered during the period from July 1 to December 31, 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the travel restrictions imposed by Greece and other countries to limit the spread of the virus.
